FAQs

How often should I fly?

It is important to fly often, or your costs will balloon dramatically. It is strongly recommended to fly at least 2, if not 3 times per week. 4 times is also fine, though you receive rapidly diminishing returns after 4 times a week.

how long is each lesson?

Each lesson is generally 1.5-2 hours of flying in the aircraft, and 1-1.5 hours of ground instruction.

How much does each lesson cost?

Using those values stated above, it can range in cost from $300-$500, though some lessons may be more or less depending on the objectives of that lesson. For example, a long cross-country flight will require more time, and therefore be a more expensive lesson, and there’s no way to avoid that.

How long does it take to get my private pilot license?

Generally, for most, it will take anywhere from 3-12 months. If you show up prepared, ask questions, are invested in your training progress, and fly often, it is not uncommon to get it in 3-5 months!

What about the book stuff, i.e. ground training?

At JEDAIR, we value ground training very highly. However, we recognize that for us to give you all of it, it would become very expensive. This is why we use FlightInsight ground school, to ensure students receive a quality foundation.

Students that already have a ground school may be eligible for a $200 credit toward their flight training, and students with a completed written test may be eligible for $300.

When, and How, do I get my medical?

We recommend getting your medical ASAP. If you’re looking to get paid to fly in the future, ask for a 1st Class Medical. If you are planning to be a private pilot for life, get a 3rd Class.

Check out the FAA’s guide on getting a medical license. If you have anything in your medical history that you are afraid could disqualify you, please reach out to us prior to scheduling an appointment with an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) to discuss the implications. Alternatively, AOPA members can reach out to the AOPA medical hotline.

How dO I pay for my training?

You can pay for your training in any of the common ways: cash, check, card. You can pay at the end of each lesson or pre-pay, which will net you a sweet 5% bonus.

If you are needing help with financing or affording it, check out our Financial Aid information page.

Card payments are subject to a 3% card payment fee.

What are your hours of operation?

Aircraft are flown 24/7/365. We generally answer the phone 9am-9pm (when we are not flying), and are sometimes in the office during those times, though your best bet to catch us there is to give us a call beforehand.

Is training conducted under Part 61 or part 141?

We are a part 61 school and cannot accept VA or G.I. bill funding.

Do you train foreign students?

Yes, but you must go through the TSA Flight Training Security Program prior to starting with our school. Please go to their website to find out more. We cannot assist with the process until you are fully approved to begin training and are ready to select a training provider.

We cannot assist with Visa issues.
